Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Give your desk a touch of Southern California retail history with this Fazio's Shopping Bag foldable mobile phone display stand. Its name recalls the 1972 rebranding that introduced Fazio's Shopping Bag under Fisher Foods. The chain traced its roots to one Los Angeles grocery store opened in 1930, then grew through a complicated history of mergers, court action, and ownership changes. The stores were sold to Albertsons in 1978, ending the independent brand era. A useful conversation piece for local-history fans and grocery collectors.
Shopping Bag Food Stores began in 1930 as a single grocery store on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. The company opened its first supermarket in 1933 and went public in 1954. In January 1960, Shopping Bag, then operating 38 stores, announced a merger with Vons, which had 28 stores. The combined chain would have been the second largest supermarket chain on the West Coast. The Federal Trade Commission challenged the merger. After two lower court victories for Vons, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed those decisions in 1966 and ordered divestiture. In June 1967, Vons completed the sale of Shopping Bag Food Stores to E.F. MacDonald. MacDonald later acquired 31 A&P supermarkets in Los Angeles and converted them to the Shopping Bag name. In 1972, MacDonald sold the chain to Fisher Foods, which rebranded the stores as Fazio's Shopping Bag. In 1978, all stores were sold to Albertsons, ending the chain's independent brand history.
