Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Keep business cards close with a nod to the history of Fazio's Shopping Bag, a grocery name rooted in Los Angeles. Shopping Bag opened its first store in 1930 and expanded into a chain whose story included a proposed merger, a court-ordered divestiture, and successive changes in ownership. Fisher Foods introduced the Fazio's Shopping Bag name in 1972; the stores were sold to Albertsons in 1978. This card holder suits collectors, former customers, and anyone interested in the evolving identity of Southern California retail.
Shopping Bag Food Stores began in 1930 as a single grocery store on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. The company opened its first supermarket in 1933 and went public in 1954. In January 1960, Shopping Bag, then operating 38 stores, announced a merger with Vons, which had 28 stores. The combined chain would have been the second largest supermarket chain on the West Coast. The Federal Trade Commission challenged the merger. After two lower court victories for Vons, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed those decisions in 1966 and ordered divestiture. In June 1967, Vons completed the sale of Shopping Bag Food Stores to E.F. MacDonald. MacDonald later acquired 31 A&P supermarkets in Los Angeles and converted them to the Shopping Bag name. In 1972, MacDonald sold the chain to Fisher Foods, which rebranded the stores as Fazio's Shopping Bag. In 1978, all stores were sold to Albertsons, ending the chain's independent brand history.
