GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Take a connection to Southern California history along on your journeys with this Fazio's Shopping Bag passport cover. The brand traces its roots to a Los Angeles grocery store opened in 1930 and reflects the changing fortunes of a regional chain. After a merger challenge and court-ordered divestiture, the stores moved through new ownership, taking the Fazio's Shopping Bag name in 1972. Their 1978 sale to Albertsons ended the independent brand story. A fitting travel keepsake for collectors and former local shoppers.
Shopping Bag Food Stores began in 1930 as a single grocery store on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. The company opened its first supermarket in 1933 and went public in 1954. In January 1960, Shopping Bag, then operating 38 stores, announced a merger with Vons, which had 28 stores. The combined chain would have been the second largest supermarket chain on the West Coast. The Federal Trade Commission challenged the merger. After two lower court victories for Vons, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed those decisions in 1966 and ordered divestiture. In June 1967, Vons completed the sale of Shopping Bag Food Stores to E.F. MacDonald. MacDonald later acquired 31 A&P supermarkets in Los Angeles and converted them to the Shopping Bag name. In 1972, MacDonald sold the chain to Fisher Foods, which rebranded the stores as Fazio's Shopping Bag. In 1978, all stores were sold to Albertsons, ending the chain's independent brand history.
