GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Keep a reminder of New Jersey racing history close at hand with this Garden State Park Horse Racetrack metal business card holder. The venue, remembered as The Garden, helped shape Cherry Hill's identity after opening in 1942 and hosting generations of racing fans. Its signature events included the Jersey Derby and Garden State Stakes, while its story spanned a devastating fire, a 1985 reopening and a final race in 2001. A distinctive desk keepsake for track historians, collectors and fans of local landmarks.
Garden State Park was a harness and thoroughbred racetrack in Cherry Hill, Camden County, New Jersey. It opened on July 18, 1942, after wartime material shortages delayed construction. Developer Eugene Mori built much of its Georgian-style grandstand from wood after authorities seized structural steel. Known as “the Garden,” it became a prominent racing venue, hosting the Jersey Derby, Garden State Stakes and Gardenia Stakes. The track helped spur entertainment and commercial development in the area, which was then Delaware Township and is now Cherry Hill Township. A major fire destroyed the grandstand on April 14, 1977, killing three people, but the track later returned with a new steel-and-glass grandstand financed by Robert Brennan. It reopened on April 1, 1985. Spend A Buck won the Jersey Derby there on May 27, 1985, after victories in the Kentucky Derby, Cherry Hill Mile and Garden State Stakes; the Jersey Derby purse and bonus set a record at the time. The final race was held on May 3, 2001, after 58 years. Demolition began in 2003, and the site became a mixed-use town center with retail and residential areas.
