Product Details & Size Guide

GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Bring a small reminder of Washington retail history to gatherings and home routines. Founded in 1905 as Julius Garfinkle & Co., Garfinckel's grew from a local store into a familiar name in the city’s downtown shopping district. Its landmark flagship opened at 14th and F in 1929, across from the Willard Hotel. This bottle opener nods to the department store’s long local story and the generations of shoppers who remember its place in the capital.

Garfinckel's began in Washington, D.C., in 1905 as Julius Garfinkle & Co., founded by Julius Garfinckel with 10 clerks. The store opened October 2 at 1226 F Street NW; by August 1924 its name was Julius Garfinckel & Co. In 1918 it was at 13th and F Streets, and in 1929 its eight-story flagship opened at 14th and F, across from the Willard Hotel. Designed by Starrett & van Vleck, the building later entered the National Register of Historic Places. The retailer acquired Brooks Brothers in 1946 and De Pinna in 1950. Following its 1967 acquisition of Miller & Rhoads, it became part of Garfinckel, Brooks Brothers, Miller & Rhoads, Inc.; that conglomerate acquired Ann Taylor in 1977. Allied Stores bought the conglomerate in 1981 for $228 million. After Campeau Corp. acquired Allied in 1986, it sold the Garfinckel's chain to Raleigh's, creating Garfinckel's, Raleigh's & Co. The chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on June 21, 1990, and ceased operations that year. Its former flagship was redeveloped as Hamilton Square in 1997–1999.

This slim, all-metal bottle opener feels like the trusted tool you reach for when friends gather and stories start. Forged from heavy-duty stainless steel, it slides into a pocket or bartending apron without bulk, then delivers confident leverage when a cold drink needs freeing. The flat surface accepts crisp laser engraving, so names, dates, or logos stay sharp through years of use. Use it behind the home bar, at backyard tailgates, or hand one to each member of your wedding party — it’s built to take commercial-level wear while still looking clean and refined. Simple, sturdy, and ready for the next toast.
