Hastings Entertainment was an American entertainment retail chain headquartered in Amarillo, Texas. Its roots reached back to 1968, when West Texas News began as a newsstand provider and later became a division of Western Merchandisers, Inc., a books and music wholesaler. Western Merchandisers became a Wal-Mart Stores subsidiary in 1990, then was sold to Anderson Media Corporation in 1994 and operated as Anderson Merchandisers. Hastings grew into a regional superstore chain, with 123 stores in 2016 across the South Central United States, Rocky Mountain states, Great Plains, Midwest, and many college towns. As book, music, and video sales declined, the chain redesigned stores in 2013 around higher-margin toys, gifts, electronics, instruments, hobby goods, and licensed products. Its 2010 Diamond Comic Distributors account helped make Hastings the largest U.S. direct-market comic retailer. Draw Another Circle LLC acquired Hastings in July 2014. After bankruptcy in 2016, liquidation closed every remaining store by the end of October. Calendar Holdings LLC acquired the Hastings intellectual property at auction.
