Houston Metro Airlines Cuffed Beanie

GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Keep the story of Houston Metro Airlines close with a cuffed beanie inspired by a carrier that connected Clear Lake City with Houston and destinations across Texas and Louisiana. Founded in 1969, the airline grew from a purpose-built STOL operation into a regional network whose history includes Metroflight and American Eagle service. A thoughtful choice for aviation collectors, Houston history fans, and anyone drawn to the independent commuter airlines that shaped short-haul travel.

Founded in 1969 to serve the Houston area, Houston Metro Airlines began with short cross-town flights linking Clear Lake City to Houston Intercontinental Airport. The company built a dedicated short take-off and landing airstrip, terminal and hangar near the NASA Johnson Space Center. Its network grew to include destinations across southeast and south Texas, as well as Lafayette and Lake Charles, Louisiana. Early flights used de Havilland Canada Twin Otter aircraft; Short 330 turboprops later supported higher-demand routes. In 1974, its Metroflight division tried a brief Twin Otter shuttle between Dallas Love Field and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, ending the service in 1975. The company expanded into a holding company, acquiring or creating regional operators and supplying feeder flights for major airlines. Metroflight began American Eagle service on November 1, 1984, while an Atlanta-based operation flew as Eastern Metro Express. Acquisitions included Chaparral Airlines in 1987 and Brockway Air in 1989. Metro entered Chapter 11 in 1991 and ceased operations in May 1993. AMR Corporation bought the airline's assets; some Metroflight assets later went to Simmons Airlines. The Clear Lake City airfield was subsequently abandoned and demolished for suburban development.

This cuffed beanie carries a lived-in street energy—soft, warm, and quietly bold. The low-profile embroidery sits on the cuff like a personal insignia: a small, slightly distressed logo with a touch of red that reads as both vintage and current. It slips on easily and stays put through commutes, late-night walks, and chilly market runs, adding a subtle graphic edge without shouting.

Wear it with a worn denim jacket, layered knit, or an oversized coat. It works for creatives who like to curate a look that’s casual but considered, for city cyclists who need dependable warmth, or for anyone who favors compact, tactile details. The hypoallergenic acrylic knit keeps things comfortable against the skin while the 12" cuff gives you styling flexibility—fold it high for warmth or roll it low for a slouchier silhouette. This is a small, everyday piece that quietly completes an outfit and ages into its own personality.
