The Infoseek Hoodie / Sweatshirt celebrates a search-engine name from the moment the web became a shared cultural frontier. Founded in Sunnyvale in 1994, Infoseek moved from an early service model to a major search destination, gained a key browser placement, and later became part of the GO.com portal chapter. Infoseek was an American internet search engine founded by Steve Kirsch in 1994 and operated by Infoseek Corporation in Sunnyvale, California. It launched in January 1994 as a pay-for-use service, ended that model in August, and returned as Infoseek search in February 1995. That year, a deal with Netscape made it the default search engine on Netscape Navigator. Infoseek began trading on Nasdaq as SEEK on June 11, 1996. Its partnership with Aptex Software led to the 1997 release of UltraMatch behavioral-targeting technology, using SelectCast neural networking software. By September 1997, the site had 7.3 million monthly visitors. Infoseek acquired WebChat Broadcasting System in April 1998. Disney bought a 43 percent stake in 1998, then acquired the remaining stock in 1999 and combined Infoseek with Starwave properties to form the GO.com portal. Disney canceled the service in February 2001. Its Ultraseek Server enterprise-search technology had been sold to Inktomi in 2000 and later continued through Verity and Autonomy.
