The Jackson & Curtis heavy knit quarter-zip sweatshirt channels the composed character of an old Boston financial firm. Established on Congress Street in 1879, Jackson & Curtis developed through decades of brokerage history before its 1942 merger with Paine & Webber. Jackson & Curtis was founded in July 1879 on Congress Street in Boston, Massachusetts, by Charles Cabot Jackson and Laurence Curtis. The investment banking and stock brokerage firm began with two employees and leased premises on Congress Street in May 1881. It belonged to the Boston Stock Exchange and acquired a seat on the New York Stock Exchange in 1890. In June 1942, following the difficult years of the Great Depression, Jackson & Curtis merged with the Boston brokerage firm Paine & Webber. The combined business, Paine, Webber, Jackson & Curtis, had 22 branch offices and became a significant participant in the New England financial market. Its headquarters moved from Boston to New York in 1963. The holding company, PaineWebber Inc., was incorporated in 1970 and went public in 1974. Later acquisitions included Mitchell Hutchins in 1977 and Blyth, Eastman Dillon & Co. in 1979. In 1984, its divisions were consolidated under the Paine Webber brand. Paine Webber was acquired by UBS AG in 2000.
