GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Take a piece of Washington retail history along with your daily routine. Jelleff's began on F Street, N.W., in 1910 and grew from a downtown women's apparel store into a regional chain, with its first suburban location opening at Shirlington Shopping Center in 1947. This tumbler celebrates the company's long connection to the capital and its changing retail landscape. It's a thoughtful pick for Jelleff's collectors, D.C. history fans, and anyone who enjoys carrying a story rooted in a memorable local landmark.
The Frank R. Jelleff Co., commonly known as Jelleff's, was a Washington, D.C., retailer specializing in women's apparel. Frank R. Jelleff founded the company in March 1910 on F Street, N.W., in downtown Washington. Its flagship later stood at 1214–1220 F Street, in the F Street Mall, and closed in early 1973. The company remained family run until 1968, when a group headed by I. Lee Potter bought it from the founder's widow. Potter became chairman, and his father, Alan Potter, served as president. Jelleff's expanded beyond the city: its first suburban store opened at Shirlington Shopping Center in Virginia in December 1947. The chain also operated stores in Silver Spring, Falls Church, Springfield Mall, Tysons Corner Center, and on Connecticut Avenue in Washington, as well as the Little Shop in Bethesda from 1942 to 1969. A Crystal City Underground store opened in September 1976. As the chain closed in 1979, that location continued independently as Fifteen Thirty Five. The Tysons Corner store closed early that year, followed by Connecticut Avenue and Springfield Mall in May and Silver Spring in June. I. Lee Potter remained chairman until the company's closing.
