Celebrate a familiar paint-trade name with a Kelly-Moore Paints hoodie or sweatshirt rooted in nearly eight decades of regional history. Founded in San Carlos in 1946, Kelly-Moore grew alongside the rise of company paint stores and do-it-yourself home projects, then expanded across western markets before moving operations to Texas. Kelly-Moore Paints was founded in 1946 in San Carlos, California, by former Glidden employees William Kelly and William Moore. Moore bought out Kelly in 1952 and remained closely involved in the business for roughly three decades, helping shape production methods and the planning of company-owned stores. Retail sales grew in importance as more homeowners took on painting projects. After Moore retired in 1984, Joseph P. Cristiano became chief executive in January 1985. The company expanded through acquisitions, including Seattle's Preservative Paint Co. in 1994, K-M Universal in 1995, the paint division of Guam-based Island Equipment Co. in 1996, and Ponderosa Paint Manufacturing in 2000. An employee stock ownership plan was established in 1998. Manufacturing moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to Hurst, Texas, in 2017, while headquarters moved to Irving, Texas, in 2023. Following a 2022 acquisition by Flacks Group, operations ended in 2024 apart from filling existing orders. In May 2024, Latex Paint acquired the company's intellectual property assets.
