Keystone Racetrack opened in November 1974 in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, replacing Liberty Bell Park Racetrack in Northeast Philadelphia as the area's Thoroughbred track. In 1984, ITB purchased the track and renamed it Philadelphia Park, adding a turf course and Phonebet wagering. Greenwood Racing, founded in 1989 by British bookmaking veterans Bob Green and Bill Hogwood, bought the oval from ITB in December 1990. Full-card simulcasting and six Turf Clubs followed. In 1998, Greenwood joined Penn National Gaming in a New Jersey venture called Pennwood, involving Freehold Raceway and an operating lease for Garden State Park; that park closed in 2002. The venue was rechristened Parx Racing and Casino on August 30, 2010. Its casino opened in December 2009, with table games added in 2010. Parx later expanded into sports betting and online gaming, and the Xcite Center and a new poker room opened in January 2018. The property is in Bensalem Township, Bucks County, northeast of Philadelphia, and is owned and operated by Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment. The Pennsylvania Derby and Cotillion are among its signature Thoroughbred races.
