GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Start the day with a reminder of Kids R Us and its place in children’s retail history. The brand opened its first stores in Paramus, New Jersey, and Brooklyn, New York, in February 1983, as part of the Toys R Us family. Standalone locations closed in 2003, and the chain folded in January 2004 as the parent business focused more on its central toy retail identity. This mug makes a thoughtful keepsake for former shoppers and collectors of apparel and retail history.
Kids R Us was an American children’s discount clothing retailer within the Toys R Us corporate family. Its first stores opened in February 1983 in Paramus, New Jersey, and Brooklyn, New York. The chain later became part of a company whose history began in Washington, D.C., in April 1948, when Charles P. Lazarus founded Children’s Supermart as a baby-furniture retailer. The business refocused on toys in 1957, and Interstate Department Stores acquired it in 1966. Kids R Us closed its standalone stores in 2003; the chain folded in January 2004 as the retailer focused more on its Toys R Us brand. Kids R Us departments in combined stores continued for a time, but those locations had all closed by 2007. The brand’s history reflects the expansion and restructuring of a larger retail business that also operated specialty toy and baby-product formats. Toys R Us entered bankruptcy protection in the United States and Canada in September 2017, and its remaining U.S. stores closed in June 2018. In January 2019, the global intellectual property, excluding Canada, transferred to Tru Kids, Inc.; WHP Global acquired a controlling interest in Tru Kids in 2021.
