Kids R Us departments in combined stores continued for a time, but those locations had all closed by 2007. The brand’s history reflects the expansion and restructuring of a larger retail business that also operated specialty toy and baby-product formats. Toys R Us entered bankruptcy protection in the United States and Canada in September 2017, and its remaining U.S. stores closed in June 2018. In January 2019, the global intellectual property, excluding Canada, transferred to Tru Kids, Inc.; WHP Global acquired a controlling interest in Tru Kids in 2021.
