Keep a reminder of King's Variety Store close on everyday drives. Founded by M.H. King in Burley, Idaho, in 1915, the regional discount chain expanded to 27 stores across Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Wyoming. Its smaller-town locations and wide range of value-priced goods made it a familiar part of local shopping. This car coaster honors that history, which concluded when King's ceased operations in May 2017.
King's Variety Store was a discount-store chain founded in 1915 by M.H. King in Burley, Idaho. The business grew to a peak of 27 stores across Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Wyoming. Its locations were often in smaller towns where a grocery store was the major retail outlet, giving the chain a role in local shopping beyond food retail. A typical store measured between 10,000 and 20,000 square feet and offered a wide variety of value-priced merchandise. King's operated as a regional variety retailer, with its name associated with discount shopping and broad merchandise selection across six western states. In February 2017, the company announced that it would close all of its stores. King's ceased operations in May 2017, ending a business that had begun in Burley more than a century earlier. The supplied account identifies no merger, successor, or later brand transition, so the chain's documented history concludes with its closure.
