GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Honor a defining name in Pacific Northwest menswear with this Klopfenstein's Heavy Knit Quarter-Zip Sweatshirt. Founded in Tacoma, the retailer built a regional presence that reached downtown Seattle, Northgate Mall, Lloyd Center, Aurora Village, and Tacoma Mall. The company changed hands over time, including its acquisition by Hartmarx in 1968, and its stores closed by 1993. This design connects apparel with a specific local history, making it a considered choice for former shoppers and collectors of regional retail stories.

Klopfenstein's was an upscale men's clothing retailer founded in Tacoma, Washington. Its roots reach back to 1909, when Clarence F. Klopfenstein and Samuel Conrad purchased a downtown Tacoma building for a menswear store. In 1918, Klopfenstein and Edward Mason opened a new men's store at 936 Pacific; after Klopfenstein bought out Mason in 1925, it became known as Klopfenstein's. The business opened in downtown Seattle in 1924 and later moved to Fourth Avenue. In 1939, a new Fourth Avenue store opened, and ownership passed from Clarence to his son Hugh. The retailer expanded into shopping centers, with locations including Northgate Mall in 1950, Lloyd Center in Oregon in 1960, Aurora Village in 1962, and Tacoma Mall in 1965. After merging with Seattle retailer Leslie-Hughes in 1966, it moved in 1967 to a large store at Sixth Avenue and Pine Street. Hartmarx acquired the company in 1968 and expanded its stores in the region and Alaska. The Seattle flagship moved to Two Union Square in 1989. Hartmarx sold the division in 1992; all Klopfenstein's stores had closed by summer 1993.
