Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Keep a memorable name from New York’s financial past close at hand with this L.F. Rothschild, Unterberg, Towbin double-sided keychain charm. The firm began in 1899 at 32 Broadway and took its combined name after a 1977 merger. In the early 1980s, it became a notable underwriter of technology company offerings, before market losses helped bring the business down after the 1987 crash. A compact keepsake for finance historians, former employees, and collectors of corporate ephemera.
Founded in 1899 in New York City by Louis F. Rothschild and partner Leonard Hockstader, L.F. Rothschild & Co. took over the offices and business of Albert Loeb & Co. at 32 Broadway. Louis F. Rothschild was not related to the Rothschild family. The firm focused on fixed-income securities sales and trading and also operated in arbitrage, retail brokerage, and wealth management. After merging with C.E. Unterberg, Towbin in 1977, it became L.F. Rothschild, Unterberg, Towbin, led primarily by Thomas I. Unterberg and A. Robert Towbin. That year it moved to 55 Water Street, leasing the 45th and 46th floors. Its merchant banking investments included high-technology companies, and in the early 1980s it became a leading underwriter of initial public offerings, taking companies including Intel, Cray Research, and Cetus Corporation public. Unterberg and Towbin left in 1986 to join Shearson Lehman. The firm's stock trading exposure contributed to its collapse after the 1987 market crash. Franklin Savings Association acquired it in February 1988, but its holding company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in July 1989. By the end of that year, staffing had fallen from a peak of 2,200 to 45.
