Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Show your interest in regional rail history with this Lake Erie and Western Railroad cotton polo shirt. The company’s routes linked Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, including a 412-mile main line between Sandusky and Peoria. Its story reaches back to predecessor railroads and follows a series of corporate changes that included New York Central and the Nickel Plate. A fitting choice for railroad collectors, local history enthusiasts, and anyone who values the people and places connected by historic rail lines.
The Lake Erie and Western Railroad operated in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. Its main line ran 412 miles west from Sandusky, Ohio, to Peoria, Illinois, passing through Fremont and Fostoria, Ohio; Muncie and Lafayette, Indiana; and Bloomington, Illinois. Other main lines connected Indianapolis with Michigan City and Fort Wayne with Connersville, both in Indiana. Branches ran from St. Marys to Minster, Ohio, and from New Castle to Rushville, Indiana. The railroad was incorporated in Illinois on February 10, 1887. Its origins lay in a network of earlier railroads dating to the mid-1850s, including the Peru and Indianapolis Railroad, incorporated in Indiana on January 19, 1846. The Seney Syndicate linked several short railroads and an earlier Lake Erie and Western Railway company formed in 1879. Consolidations and foreclosure sales led to successive versions of the Lake Erie and Western name. The railroad controlled and leased the Northern Ohio Railway and jointly held a 10 percent interest in the Peoria and Pekin Union Railway. New York Central gained control in 1900 and operated it separately for two decades, then sold it to the Nickel Plate in 1922. Its depot district in Kokomo was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.
