Product Details & Size Guide
Bring a piece of Waterville retail history into your everyday rotation with this LaVerdiere's cuffed beanie. The company began in 1922 as Evariste LaVerdiere's Main Street news stand, then grew into a drug store chain known across Maine and neighboring states. Its small-town locations mixed pharmacy services with general merchandise and seasonal decorations, giving the name a distinctive place in Northern New England memories. This beanie makes a warm-hearted nod to the regional stores and their lasting local identity.
LaVerdiere's Super Drug Stores, commonly called LaVerdiere's, began in 1922 when Evariste LaVerdiere opened a news stand on Main Street in Waterville, Maine. The business grew into a soda fountain and then a drug store. Based in Waterville, the chain eventually operated more than 70 stores in small towns across Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Alongside pharmacy services, its stores sold general merchandise, toys, and seasonal Halloween and Christmas decorations. In the 1980s, some locations included Action Family Arcade; the company operated 42 of these arcades during that decade. The stores were designed at 5,000 square feet, a size that allowed Sunday opening under Maine's former blue laws. Company president Stephen LaVerdiere later identified repeal of those laws as a source of increased competition from larger retailers. In 1994, Rite Aid purchased the company while expanding in Northern New England. Walgreens later operated in many former LaVerdiere's locations in Maine into the mid-2020s. LaVerdiere's history also entered popular culture through Stephen King's novella The Sun Dog, which describes the store and its Halloween goods aisle.

This cuffed beanie carries a lived-in street energy—soft, warm, and quietly bold. The low-profile embroidery sits on the cuff like a personal insignia: a small, slightly distressed logo with a touch of red that reads as both vintage and current. It slips on easily and stays put through commutes, late-night walks, and chilly market runs, adding a subtle graphic edge without shouting.
Wear it with a worn denim jacket, layered knit, or an oversized coat. It works for creatives who like to curate a look that’s casual but considered, for city cyclists who need dependable warmth, or for anyone who favors compact, tactile details. The hypoallergenic acrylic knit keeps things comfortable against the skin while the 12" cuff gives you styling flexibility—fold it high for warmth or roll it low for a slouchier silhouette. This is a small, everyday piece that quietly completes an outfit and ages into its own personality.
