Product Details & Size Guide

GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Keep plans and ideas alongside a story from the pioneering years of Los Angeles aviation with this Los Angeles Airways spiral notebook. LAA started airmail service in 1947 and became the world's first scheduled helicopter airline when passenger flights began in 1954. Its regional network connected Los Angeles International Airport with local heliports and destinations across Southern California. A fitting choice for aviation enthusiasts, students of airline history, and collectors of historic carriers, this notebook recalls an ambitious service that shaped a distinctive chapter in regional travel before closing in 1971.

Los Angeles Airways (LAA) was a helicopter airline founded by Clarence Belinn in October 1947 and based in Westchester, California. It began airmail service on October 1, 1947, and started scheduled passenger service in November 1954, becoming the world’s first scheduled helicopter airline. Its main hub was Los Angeles International Airport, connecting passengers with local heliports including Disneyland Resort in Anaheim and the Newporter Resort in Newport Beach. Service later expanded to Ontario and San Bernardino. In March 1962, LAA acquired four Sikorsky S-61 helicopters, becoming the type’s first civil operator. In 1965, the Civil Aeronautics Board granted the company a permanent certificate for scheduled passenger operations in greater Los Angeles, while federal flight authority allowed instrument-rules operations. The board also ended annual financial support, judging commercial helicopter service not viable. LAA considered buying Sikorsky S-64 aircraft but could not secure financing. After two fatal accidents and an unsuccessful purchase agreement with Golden West Airlines, LAA ceased operations in 1971.
