GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Show an appreciation for Southern rail heritage with the Louisiana and Arkansas Railway. Founded to acquire former logging railroad properties, the company grew from its Arkansas and Louisiana roots into a network connected with Shreveport, Hope, and New Orleans. Its transition into the Kansas City Southern system and the stories of the Shreveporter and Southern Belle give collectors plenty to remember. This polo shirt suits railway enthusiasts and history-minded wearers who value the people, routes, and identities behind the railroad.
The Louisiana and Arkansas Railroad was incorporated in Arkansas in 1898 to acquire former logging railroad properties in Arkansas and Louisiana. Led by timberman William Buchanan, with partners Harvey C. Couch and William C. Edenborn, it was headquartered in Stamps, Arkansas, where Buchanan’s Bodcaw Lumber Company was based. Reorganized as the Louisiana and Arkansas Railway in 1902, it came under Couch-led investor control on January 16, 1928. A newly chartered Delaware company acquired the railway and leased, then acquired, the Louisiana Railway and Navigation Company, whose line connected New Orleans and Shreveport. The Shreveporter began service between Shreveport and Hope on December 30, 1928; The Hustler followed in 1932. After Couch’s interests gained control of Kansas City Southern Railway in 1939, the two properties were merged, with Kansas City Southern surviving and the L&A continuing as a subsidiary. Their connection enabled freight service between Kansas City and New Orleans, and the Southern Belle began running in 1940. The L&A identity faded as Kansas City Southern adopted its name across its properties. The Shreveporter ended in 1962 and the Southern Belle in 1969. The subsidiary was dissolved in 1992, while its former route remains part of Canadian Pacific Kansas City.
