Give your phone a place to rest while keeping a New England retail story in view with this Mammoth Mart foldable mobile phone display stand listing. Mammoth Mart grew from a 1956 store in Framingham's Mammoth Mills building into a regional discount chain, adopting its familiar name in 1962. Its plain suburban stores and broad mix of goods helped define a retail format, and Marty the mammoth made the brand easy to recognize. A practical desk keepsake for collectors of company history and regional store memorabilia.

Mammoth Mart was a discount department store chain based in the northeastern United States, with a strong presence in New England. Max Coffman and Henry Gornstein opened its first store in Framingham, Massachusetts, in 1956. The store occupied a mill building called Mammoth Mills, which gave the original business its first name. The chain adopted the name Mammoth Mart in 1962. Its large, plain stores, often in suburban shopping centers, sold housewares, hardware, and clothing, and helped establish a format later pursued by other discount retailers. The advertising mascot was Marty, a smiling mammoth in a blazer. By 1969, the chain had grown to 35 stores. In 1970 it acquired Boston Baby, an eight-store juvenile merchandise chain, and later expanded that division to 15 locations; the venture was liquidated in 1973. That September, Mammoth Mart also acquired two locations from Key Stores. The costs of the Boston Baby liquidation, alongside economic pressures, preceded the company's June 17, 1974, filing for bankruptcy protection under Chapter XI. King's Department Stores acquired Mammoth Mart for $43 million on June 15, 1977. By spring 1979, the remaining locations had been rebranded as King's.
