That September, Mammoth Mart also acquired two locations from Key Stores. The costs of the Boston Baby liquidation, alongside economic pressures, preceded the company's June 17, 1974, filing for bankruptcy protection under Chapter XI. King's Department Stores acquired Mammoth Mart for $43 million on June 15, 1977. By spring 1979, the remaining locations had been rebranded as King's.
