Product Details & Size Guide
Celebrate a defining chapter in American communications with this MCI Communications men's sport polo shirt. Founded in 1963, MCI grew from a proposed relay route between Chicago and St. Louis into a long-distance competitor whose legal challenge helped open the market to change. From MCI Mail in 1983 to its role in building MCI.net, the company became part of daily technology history. A distinctive choice for brand collectors, telecom enthusiasts, and anyone who remembers the era of expanding communication options.
Founded on October 3, 1963, as Microwave Communications, Inc., MCI began with a plan to build microwave relay stations between Chicago, Illinois, and St. Louis, Missouri. After regulatory approval in 1969, it developed regional links and began selling data transmission services in 1972. The company became a public corporation that year and, in 1975, started offering switched long-distance telephone service in competition with AT&T. Its legal challenge to AT&T, together with federal antitrust action, contributed to the Bell System breakup. MCI expanded through acquisitions including Western Union International in 1982, RCA Global in 1987, and Telecom*USA in 1990. It launched MCI Mail in 1983 and later built MCI.net, an important part of the Internet backbone. In 1998, WorldCom acquired MCI and the combined company became MCI WorldCom. The MCI name was later dropped; after WorldCom's 2002 bankruptcy, the company emerged in 2003 as MCI Inc.
