Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Carry a piece of American company history along on your travels. Meadville began in Elizabeth, New Jersey, in 1930 and later became associated with Merit fuel stations across the Northeastern United States. Its red M mark identified a regional network whose retail story continued under Hess after the 2000 acquisition. Later ownership changes brought the stations into the Speedway brand and, in 2021, the 7-Eleven family. This passport cover connects travel with a documented history of changing names and corporate identities.
The Meadville Corporation was an oil company founded in 1930 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and later based in Haverford, Pennsylvania. It sold fuel through retail gas stations under the Merit name. Merit stations operated throughout the Northeastern United States, with a logo built around a red M whose right vertical support was cut off. Amerada Hess held a large stake in the company for many years. In 2000, Hess acquired the remainder of Meadville Corporation and rebranded its 178 Merit stations as Hess stations. The retail assets later changed hands again: in 2014, Marathon Petroleum purchased Hess's retail assets, and the former stations became part of the Speedway brand. Seven years later, Japan-based Seven & I Holdings purchased Speedway, bringing those stations into the 7-Eleven family. This sequence traces the Merit identity through successive ownership and retail-brand transitions, from its roots as a regional fuel business to later national corporate networks.
