The Meadville Corporation was an oil company founded in 1930 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and later based in Haverford, Pennsylvania. It sold fuel through retail gas stations under the Merit name. Amerada Hess held a large stake in the company for many years. In 2000, Hess acquired the remainder of Meadville Corporation and rebranded its 178 Merit stations as Hess stations. The retail assets later changed hands again: in 2014, Marathon Petroleum purchased Hess's retail assets, and the former stations became part of the Speedway brand.
