Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Start the day with a reminder of Miami Air International, a charter airline whose story began in South Florida. Founded in August 1990, it started operations at Miami International Airport in October 1991 with leased Boeing 727s. Passenger flying expanded over time, including Boeing 737-800 service for military, sports, cruise, tour and corporate charters. A cargo venture, ownership changes and the end of flights in 2020 complete this company’s journey. This coffee mug brings a meaningful aviation history detail to home or office.
Miami Air International was founded in August 1990 and began operations in October 1991, based at Miami International Airport in Miami-Dade County, Florida. It initially flew leased Boeing 727-200 aircraft. Its founders included former Eastern Air Lines and Pan Am World Airways executive George Lyall and former People Express and Eastern executive Ross Fischer. By 2000, the airline had eight owned Boeing 727s and more than $100 million in revenue. That year, an Eagle Global Logistics-led consortium bought a majority stake and developed a cargo operation under the Quest International name, while leased Boeing 737-800s supported passenger service. After the cargo aircraft were sold in 2002, Miami Air’s passenger business expanded, including military charter work; by 2005 its fleet included eight Boeing 737-800s and two passenger Boeing 727s. TSI Holding Company later bought out the consortium and other original shareholders. The airline operated worldwide passenger charters for military, sports, cruise, tour and corporate customers. It filed for Chapter 11 on March 24, 2020, ceased flying on May 8, and converted to Chapter 7 liquidation on May 11. In late May, Tomas Romero acquired the airline’s certificates and trademarks at bankruptcy auction. A new Miami Air was planned with the same aircraft type and some key personnel.
