GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Share a lasting piece of airline history with this Mid-Continent Airlines youth hoodie and sweatshirt. Beginning as a Sioux City flight school in 1928, the company developed into a regional carrier with routes reaching from the northern central states to Louisiana and Texas. Its growth included postwar DC-3 and Convair 240 service, and its story joined Braniff's in 1952. Young aviation fans and families who collect travel memories can connect with a company that helped shape air service across the region.

Mid-Continent Airlines began in 1928 as a flight school at Rickenbacker Airport in Sioux City, Iowa, founded by Arthur S. Hanford Sr. and his son, Arthur S. Hanford Jr. It grew into Hanford's Tri-State Airlines, offering charter and scheduled service across the central United States. In 1934, it received air mail routes and briefly moved its headquarters to Minneapolis before returning to Sioux City. Following Arthur Jr.'s death in 1935, new ownership took shape under Thomas Fortune Ryan III. The company was incorporated in Delaware in 1936 and began air-carrier operations as Hanford Airlines; its name changed to Mid-Continent Airlines in 1938 as service expanded around Tulsa and the central oil region. After wartime cargo, training, and aircraft-modification work, it resumed growth, adding Gulf Coast destinations and newer aircraft, including DC-3s and Convair 240s. Based in Kansas City by the time of its final years, the airline served a broad network from the northern central states to Louisiana and Texas. Braniff International Airways acquired it on August 16, 1952, after Civil Aeronautics Board approval. Mid-Continent's routes and aircraft joined Braniff's network, and its name and Chief Wapello logo are administered as Braniff intellectual property.
