Product Details & Size Guide
Keep your everyday carry connected to a distinct chapter of regional aviation with a Midstate Airlines laptop sleeve. Founded in 1964, the Stevens Point carrier linked smaller Wisconsin communities with Milwaukee and Chicago, later reaching cities across the Midwest. Its move to Metroliners in 1977 and addition of Fokker F27 turboprops in 1984 mark a story of ambition, changing routes, and a personal touch remembered by airline fans. A thoughtful pick for aviation-history collectors and former passengers.
Founded by Roy P. Shwery in 1964, Midstate Airlines was based in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and served communities from Marshfield and Central Wisconsin Airport. Its early Beechcraft Model 18s and later Beech 99s flew routes linking Marshfield, Wisconsin Rapids, Milwaukee, and Chicago. By the early 1970s, service also reached Hayward and Ashland, with Ashland flights from Minneapolis–St. Paul. In 1977, the airline moved to 19-passenger Swearingen Metroliners. It later expanded its fleet, adding six Fokker F27 turboprops in 1984, and at its peak served 15 cities across Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio, as well as Chicago O’Hare. Sentry Insurance acquired the airline from Shwery, then resold it to CEO and investor Bryce Appleton in 1986. That year, Midstate subleased Fokker aircraft to Chicago Air and provided its maintenance at Central Wisconsin. After Chicago Air entered bankruptcy, Appleton acquired Midstate’s remaining assets from Sentry. Midstate sold its O’Hare slots, continued operating Metroliners with a Milwaukee hub, and reduced its service. It shifted to charter flying and ceased operations in 1989.
