Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad Metal Bottle Opener
Product Details & Size Guide
Raise a toast to the Katy, whose routes carried the Missouri, Kansas & Texas Railway from its Kansas beginnings into Oklahoma and Texas. The railroad reached Dallas, Waco, Houston, and San Antonio, and shared operation of the Texas Special with the St. Louis–San Francisco Railway from 1915 through January 1959. This bottle opener brings a distinctive railroad story to a home bar, game room, or rail-history collection, and makes a thoughtful choice for Katy enthusiasts.
The Missouri, Kansas & Texas Railway was incorporated in Junction City, Kansas, in May 1870. It acquired the Union Pacific Railway, Southern Branch, established in 1865, along with several smaller railroads that formed the basis of its network. The Katy laid its first rails across the Kansas border on June 6, 1870, and became the first railroad to enter Texas from the north. Its routes expanded through Oklahoma and Texas, reaching Dallas in 1886, Waco in 1888, Houston in April 1893, and San Antonio in 1901. In the 1890s, the railroad’s timetable abbreviation and stock symbol, KT, helped give rise to the nickname “the Katy.” Its network served Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, with access to Galveston through a jointly owned railroad. From 1915 to January 4, 1959, it operated the Texas Special with the St. Louis–San Francisco Railway. In 1988, the Missouri Pacific Railroad and its owner purchased the Katy; the Katy merged into Missouri Pacific on December 1, 1989. Missouri Pacific is now part of the Union Pacific Railroad system. Former routes later became trails, including the Katy Trail State Park in Missouri.
