Product Details & Size Guide
Remember the Neisner Brothers story with a cuffed beanie inspired by a distinctive chapter in American variety-store retail. Abraham and Joseph Neisner opened their first store in Rochester in 1911, then built a business that reached 103 stores in 63 cities by 1935. Decades later, the company developed Big N, a forward-looking store format across the Northeast. This piece is for collectors who enjoy exploring how family-run retailers grew, changed, and shaped familiar shopping experiences.
Brothers Abraham and Joseph Neisner opened their first variety store in Rochester, New York, in 1911. They incorporated Neisner Brothers in New York in 1916, when the business had five stores selling merchandise priced from five cents to one dollar. In 1929, the company acquired a large interest in British Home Stores, a similar United Kingdom chain, and sold that interest in the late 1930s. The company grew during the Depression: by 1935, Neisner's operated 103 stores in 63 cities across 16 states. Abraham died in 1933 while traveling aboard the SS Rex. Later leadership included Joseph's son Fred Neisner as chairman and Abraham's son Melvin Neisner as president. In the 1960s and 1970s, Neisner's developed Big N, a store format resembling today's big-box stores, primarily in New York and other northeastern states. The company petitioned for bankruptcy protection on December 1, 1977. Ames Department Stores acquired the chain in November 1978, and GC Murphy later occupied several former Big N sites with its Murphy's Mart format, including one in Mount Vernon, Ohio.

This cuffed beanie carries a lived-in street energy—soft, warm, and quietly bold. The low-profile embroidery sits on the cuff like a personal insignia: a small, slightly distressed logo with a touch of red that reads as both vintage and current. It slips on easily and stays put through commutes, late-night walks, and chilly market runs, adding a subtle graphic edge without shouting.
Wear it with a worn denim jacket, layered knit, or an oversized coat. It works for creatives who like to curate a look that’s casual but considered, for city cyclists who need dependable warmth, or for anyone who favors compact, tactile details. The hypoallergenic acrylic knit keeps things comfortable against the skin while the 12" cuff gives you styling flexibility—fold it high for warmth or roll it low for a slouchier silhouette. This is a small, everyday piece that quietly completes an outfit and ages into its own personality.
