Add a note of New Jersey railroad heritage to your desk with this New York and Long Branch Railroad foldable mobile phone display stand. The railroad’s coastal route began between Perth Amboy and Long Branch in 1875 and grew south through communities including Belmar, Sea Girt, and Point Pleasant after an 1881 consolidation. Its history includes shared operation, a shift to Conrail in 1976, and service today as part of New Jersey Transit’s North Jersey Coast Line. A practical keepsake for rail-history enthusiasts.
The New York and Long Branch Railroad was incorporated on April 8, 1868, to serve central New Jersey. Its line from Perth Amboy to Long Branch was built in 1875. On December 20, 1881, four companies were merged into the railroad: New Egypt and Farmingdale Railroad, Long Branch and Sea Girt Railroad, New York and Long Branch Extension Railroad, and Long Branch and Barnegat Bay Railroad. Their completed routes extended the line south from Long Branch through Belmar, Sea Girt, and Point Pleasant to Bay Head Junction; the planned route from Farmingdale to New Egypt was never built. Initially leased by the Central Railroad of New Jersey, the line became jointly owned and operated with the Pennsylvania Railroad under an agreement dated January 3, 1882. The agreement gave both railroads trackage rights over the entire line. In 1976, Penn Central, successor to the Pennsylvania Railroad, and the Central Railroad of New Jersey merged into Conrail, bringing the railroad under one company’s control. The route is now part of New Jersey Transit’s North Jersey Coast Line, running between Perth Amboy and Bay Head Junction.
