Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Keep the New York, Ontario and Western Railway in the conversation with a can cooler inspired by the O&W’s remarkable regional story. Founded in 1868, the railway connected a network of New York communities and reached toward Oswego and Lake Ontario, later extending to Pennsylvania coal traffic. The W-in-O mark appeared in 1892, decades before the line’s final freight run in 1957. A distinctive keepsake for railroad collectors, history fans, and anyone who enjoys a reminder of a vanished railway.
The New York, Ontario and Western Railway, commonly called the O&W, was a regional railroad founded in 1868. Its predecessor was organized in 1866 under the direction of DeWitt C. Littlejohn, who envisioned a route linking the docks across from New York City with Oswego, a Lake Ontario port. Construction north of Middletown began in 1868, and the line was completed in 1873. The railroad later developed a route from Middletown through Cornwall and on to Weehawken, New Jersey, using trackage rights over another railway. Its branches served communities including Kingston, Port Jervis, Monticello, Utica, Rome, and Scranton, Pennsylvania. Acquisitions and new construction expanded its reach, including a 54-mile Scranton branch completed in 1890 to serve Pennsylvania coal traffic. The O&W's W-in-O logo first appeared in 1892. Passenger service declined as highways grew and demand for coal and dairy freight weakened. Its last passenger train ran on September 10, 1953. A bankruptcy court ordered complete abandonment, and the final freight train ran from Norwich to Middletown on March 29, 1957. The railroad was liquidated; rails and bridges were removed in 1958 and 1959, while some track and facilities passed to other railroads.
