GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Keep Northeast Airlines in the conversation at backyard gatherings, reunions, and game nights. The carrier began in 1931 as Boston-Maine Airways, serving Boston, Portland, and Bangor before expanding its reach across New England and to destinations farther afield. Its recognizable Yellowbird era and eventual 1972 merger with Delta give aviation fans plenty to remember. This can cooler offers a practical way to celebrate regional airline history and makes a welcome choice for collectors of historic carrier names.
Northeast Airlines began as Boston-Maine Airways, founded on July 20, 1931, by the Boston and Maine Railroad and Maine Central Railroad. Its first route connected Boston, Portland, and Bangor. National Airways operated its flights from 1933, and the carrier received scheduled-airline certification in 1939. It adopted the Northeast Airlines name in 1940 and expanded from New England into other markets, including Washington, Florida, Canada, the Bahamas, and Bermuda. During World War II it flew transatlantic military service under contract. The airline added jet aircraft in 1959 and, under Storer Broadcasting ownership from 1965, introduced its yellow-and-white “Yellowbird” livery and Boeing 727s. After years of financial difficulties, a proposed merger with Northwest Airlines was approved conditionally but did not proceed. Delta Air Lines announced a merger plan in 1971; the merger was approved in May 1972 and completed in August. Delta gained Northeast’s Boston and northern New England presence, routes to Florida and the Atlantic islands, and Boeing 727 aircraft. From 1975, Air New England took over many former Northeast New England routes and operated former Northeast aircraft. Northeast’s airline code was NE.
