Product Details & Size Guide

GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Bring Northeastern International Airways history along on the road. The airline started flying between Long Island MacArthur Airport and Fort Lauderdale in 1982, then reached seventeen cities across ten states during its rapid 1984 expansion. DC-8, Boeing 727 and Airbus A300 service, followed by financial strain and a brief corporate transition, make its story especially compelling to aviation fans. This travel mug suits road trips, daily routines and conversations about the changing routes and fortunes of early 1980s airlines.

Founded by Stephen Quinto, Northeastern International Airways began operations on February 11, 1982, with a Douglas DC-8 flight between Long Island MacArthur Airport in Islip, New York, and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida. Based in Fort Lauderdale, the low-fare carrier expanded quickly: by the end of 1983 it served eleven cities in eight states, using Boeing 727s and DC-8s. In 1984 it added Airbus A300 widebodies and operated routes linking northeastern and Florida cities with destinations including New Orleans and Los Angeles. That summer its network reached seventeen cities in ten states, and New Orleans served as a small hub. Rapid growth proved unprofitable. After an attempted lease of ten Boeing 727s from bankrupt Braniff International Airways was blocked in December 1984, Northeastern cut routes and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on January 8, 1985. Three aircraft were repossessed in March. JEI Airlines acquired the downsized carrier in August 1985, when it served New York, Philadelphia, St. Petersburg and Fort Lauderdale. The company was liquidated in 1986, ending a brief but wide-ranging chapter in U.S. airline history.
