Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Show your interest in Northern California rail heritage with this Northwestern Pacific Railroad quarter zip pullover. The railroad grew from competing plans into a route linking Sausalito, Sonoma County, and Eureka, with construction through Eel River Canyon helping define its story. From the 1914 completion to the return of freight service near Windsor and the current SMART Freight era, the line reflects a changing regional landscape. A considered choice for rail fans, local history followers, and collectors of enduring railroad names.
Northwestern Pacific Railroad history grew from competing plans by Southern Pacific and Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe to reach California’s Humboldt County lumber country. In 1906, the companies agreed to combine 42 railroad companies, creating a route from Sausalito to Eureka; the line was completed in October 1914 after construction through the Eel River Canyon was delayed by the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. The railroad became a full Southern Pacific subsidiary in 1929. Passenger service south of Willits ended in 1958, and the final Willits–Eureka passenger trip ran in 1971. Flooding in 1964 damaged 100 miles of track, while a 1978 tunnel fire closed the line north of Willits. Southern Pacific sold that northern section in 1984, and the Eureka Southern operated it until financial and storm damage problems led to its sale in 1992. The North Coast Railroad Authority acquired the line and later leased it to Northwestern Pacific Railroad Company, formed in 2006. Freight service resumed between Schellville and Windsor in 2011. In 2022, Sonoma–Marin Area Rail Transit took over freight operations, now called SMART Freight. The northern route remains out of service, with plans for a public trail.
