Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Keep a small reminder of Nyberg Automobile Works close at hand. Founded after Henry Nyberg built his first automobile in 1898, the company moved from Chicago repair and sales work to car production in Anderson and Chattanooga. Its runabouts, touring cars, and 1913 Indianapolis racing entry tell the story of a short-lived marque with an unusually wide reach. This double-sided keychain charm suits collectors who enjoy carrying a piece of early automotive history into everyday routines.
Henry Nyberg established Nyberg Automobile Works in 1899 after building his first automobile in 1898. Born in 1872 on Gotland, Sweden, he trained in Malmo and came to the United States via Canada. After living in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and working for Thomas B. Jeffery Company, he moved his workshop to Chicago in 1903. With investor Waller, he built the Nyberg-Waller single-cylinder runabout; the business later focused on repairing, rebuilding, and reselling cars. In 1907, Nyberg and investor H. E. Jennings incorporated Nyberg Automobile Works, Inc. and expanded on South Michigan Avenue. Nyberg and investors then acquired the Rider-Lewis factory in Anderson, Indiana. The first car there rolled out on March 30, 1911. A separate Chattanooga operation began in 1912, producing touring cars alongside the Anderson branch. The marque offered four-cylinder cars and added six-cylinder models in 1912; a Nyberg racing car competed in the 1913 Indianapolis 500. Underfunded, both branches entered receivership in 1914 and ceased operations. A. C. Barley bought the branches, but production did not resume. Nyberg bought the Anderson factory in 1915 and joined Cecil Gibson to develop the Madison car. Madison Motors was taken over by Bull Tractor Company in 1919. Nyberg was also associated with the Regal automobile, assembled in Berlin, Ontario, until supplies from Detroit ceased in 1917.
