$4.99
Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Carry a small reminder of the Ogren Motor Car Company’s unusual place in automobile history. Founded in Chicago in 1914, the firm pursued race-car plans before developing six-cylinder touring cars. Its story traveled through a larger Waukegan factory and a Milwaukee ice rink converted for manufacturing. The Ogren Six arrived in 1920, followed by a Continental engine in 1922. This double-sided keychain charm suits collectors who appreciate the details behind short-lived American marques.
Founded by Hugo W. Ogren in Chicago in the fall of 1914, the Ogren Motor Car Company began with plans to build one-off race cars. In 1915, it turned toward six-cylinder touring cars, with prototypes made that year. After its capital stock rose to $1,000,000 in 1916, the company moved to a larger factory in Waukegan, Illinois, and produced a line of six-cylinder automobiles. It ran out of operating cash in 1917, and the factory was sold at auction on November 22. Re-established in 1919, the company converted Milwaukee’s Elite ice skating rink into a factory. Its first Ogren Six appeared in July 1920, powered by a 65-horsepower Beaver engine, compared with 34 horsepower in the earlier cars. In 1922, Ogren replaced the Beaver engine with a more powerful Continental engine; prices ranged from $4,250 to $5,500. Late that year, Hugo Ogren left for another automobile venture, and Fred G. Smith took over, with limited success in reorganizing the company. In January 1924, its tools and property were sold to Huffman Bros. Motor Co. of Elkhart, Indiana.
