Product Details & Size Guide
Introduce a new generation to the story of the Ogren Motor Car Company, founded in Chicago in 1914. The company first planned one-off race cars, then turned to six-cylinder touring cars, with production chapters in Waukegan and Milwaukee. Its Ogren Six debuted in July 1920, and a Continental engine was adopted in 1922. This infant bodysuit connects a little one’s wardrobe with a distinctive chapter of early American motoring, perfect for families who enjoy classic car history.
Founded by Hugo W. Ogren in Chicago in the fall of 1914, the Ogren Motor Car Company began with plans to build one-off race cars. In 1915, it turned toward six-cylinder touring cars, with prototypes made that year. After its capital stock rose to $1,000,000 in 1916, the company moved to a larger factory in Waukegan, Illinois, and produced a line of six-cylinder automobiles. It ran out of operating cash in 1917, and the factory was sold at auction on November 22. Re-established in 1919, the company converted Milwaukee’s Elite ice skating rink into a factory. Its first Ogren Six appeared in July 1920, powered by a 65-horsepower Beaver engine, compared with 34 horsepower in the earlier cars. In 1922, Ogren replaced the Beaver engine with a more powerful Continental engine; prices ranged from $4,250 to $5,500. Late that year, Hugo Ogren left for another automobile venture, and Fred G. Smith took over, with limited success in reorganizing the company. In January 1924, its tools and property were sold to Huffman Bros. Motor Co. of Elkhart, Indiana.
