Omni Superstore Cuffed Beanie
Celebrate a memorable Chicago-area supermarket name with this Omni Superstore Cuffed Beanie. Omni began in April 1987 at Lake View Plaza in Orland Park, introducing a distinctive warehouse-scale grocery format developed by Dominick's. The chain expanded through the metropolitan area and reached Schererville, Indiana, in 1991 before Dominick's announced a shift to its Fresh format in 1997. This piece connects a practical everyday accessory with the story of a regional retailer and the changing grocery landscape that longtime shoppers and collectors still remember.
Omni Superstore was a Chicago-area supermarket chain created by Dominick's Finer Foods to answer the arrival of low-price, warehouse-style grocery competition. Its first store opened in April 1987 at Lake View Plaza in Orland Park, Illinois, near 159th Street and LaGrange Road. Dominick's described the concept as a more distinctive take on a warehouse grocery store. Over the following decade, 17 more locations opened in the Chicago metropolitan area, and the chain also entered Northwest Indiana in 1991 with a store in Schererville. In October 1997, Dominick's announced that Omni stores would be converted to its Fresh format, citing weaker performance than its other stores. The Schererville location became a Dominick's in 1997 and closed in 1999. Dominick's was purchased by Safeway in 1998; the Fresh concept was later eliminated and some underperforming stores closed. The Hammond, Indiana, location opened as a Dominick's in January 1999 and shut seven months later. The Omni name also appeared on organic store-brand foods at Dominick's and other Safeway stores. Chicago grocer Bob Mariano later led Mariano's, whose store design and operating model were described as similar to the Omni he had run.

This cuffed beanie carries a lived-in street energy—soft, warm, and quietly bold. The low-profile embroidery sits on the cuff like a personal insignia: a small, slightly distressed logo with a touch of red that reads as both vintage and current. It slips on easily and stays put through commutes, late-night walks, and chilly market runs, adding a subtle graphic edge without shouting.
Wear it with a worn denim jacket, layered knit, or an oversized coat. It works for creatives who like to curate a look that’s casual but considered, for city cyclists who need dependable warmth, or for anyone who favors compact, tactile details. The hypoallergenic acrylic knit keeps things comfortable against the skin while the 12" cuff gives you styling flexibility—fold it high for warmth or roll it low for a slouchier silhouette. This is a small, everyday piece that quietly completes an outfit and ages into its own personality.
