GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Take O'Neil's history along on the road with a travel mug inspired by a beloved northeastern Ohio department store name. Michael O'Neil and Isaac Dyas opened their Akron dry goods shop in 1877, beginning a story that reached communities around Akron and Canton. The 1927 downtown store became a landmark for its large display windows and animated holiday scenes. When the downtown location closed in 1989, the remaining stores merged with May Company Ohio and the O'Neil's name was retired. A memorable choice for regional history enthusiasts and collectors of department store stories.
O'Neil's was an American department store chain founded in 1877, when Michael O'Neil and Isaac Dyas opened a dry goods store at 114 East Market Street in Akron, Ohio. After Dyas died in 1892, the business became the M. O'Neil Co. May Department Stores acquired it in 1912 for $1 million. A new downtown Akron store opened in 1927 and remained until the late 1980s. O'Neil's expanded across the Akron and Canton areas, with branches in nearby communities and malls. The downtown store was known for large display windows and elaborate animated holiday scenes. In 1989, the downtown store closed and the remaining O'Neil's locations merged with May Company Ohio; the O'Neil's name was retired. May Company Ohio was later merged into its Pittsburgh division, Kaufmann's, in 1993. The chain's history connects a local Akron dry goods shop with regional department-store growth and successive corporate consolidations.
