GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Share a little Akron history with the next generation in this O'Neil's kids tee. The company began in 1877, when Michael O'Neil and Isaac Dyas opened a dry goods store on East Market Street. It grew into a regional department store name remembered around Akron and Canton, especially for the downtown store's animated holiday displays. A fitting choice for family visits, community history events, or children whose relatives have stories about shopping at O'Neil's and watching its windows come alive each season.
O'Neil's was an American department store chain founded in 1877, when Michael O'Neil and Isaac Dyas opened a dry goods store at 114 East Market Street in Akron, Ohio. After Dyas died in 1892, the business became the M. O'Neil Co. May Department Stores acquired it in 1912 for $1 million. A new downtown Akron store opened in 1927 and remained until the late 1980s. O'Neil's expanded across the Akron and Canton areas, with branches in nearby communities and malls. The downtown store was known for large display windows and elaborate animated holiday scenes. In 1989, the downtown store closed and the remaining O'Neil's locations merged with May Company Ohio; the O'Neil's name was retired. May Company Ohio was later merged into its Pittsburgh division, Kaufmann's, in 1993. The chain's history connects a local Akron dry goods shop with regional department-store growth and successive corporate consolidations.
