GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Keep cards close with a small reminder of Akron's changing retail landscape. O'Neil's traces its roots to the dry goods shop opened by Michael O'Neil and Isaac Dyas in 1877. After Dyas died, the business became the M. O'Neil Co., and May Department Stores acquired it in 1912. The O'Neil's name was retired in 1989 after its remaining locations joined May Company Ohio. This business card holder suits collectors who value regional company history and the stories preserved in familiar names.
O'Neil's was an American department store chain founded in 1877, when Michael O'Neil and Isaac Dyas opened a dry goods store at 114 East Market Street in Akron, Ohio. After Dyas died in 1892, the business became the M. O'Neil Co. May Department Stores acquired it in 1912 for $1 million. A new downtown Akron store opened in 1927 and remained until the late 1980s. O'Neil's expanded across the Akron and Canton areas, with branches in nearby communities and malls. The downtown store was known for large display windows and elaborate animated holiday scenes. In 1989, the downtown store closed and the remaining O'Neil's locations merged with May Company Ohio; the O'Neil's name was retired. May Company Ohio was later merged into its Pittsburgh division, Kaufmann's, in 1993. The chain's history connects a local Akron dry goods shop with regional department-store growth and successive corporate consolidations.
