GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Introduce a new generation to the story behind Pacer International with an infant bodysuit inspired by a notable name in North American freight. Pacer’s history reaches from Don Orris’s 1984 double-stack rail initiative to a broad collection of transportation and logistics businesses, including the Pacer Stacktrain operation. Its connections across rail, trucking, and cross-border trade make the company a memorable subject for family members who enjoy transport history and collecting meaningful corporate names.
Pacer International grew from transportation and logistics businesses assembled by founder Don Orris. In 1984, Orris led development of a cost-effective double-stack rail network service, helping change domestic goods movement in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. In 1997, he began acquiring 14 small-to-medium-sized companies in transportation, third-party logistics, intermodal marketing, drayage, and ocean transportation, founding Pacer International. Pacer acquired APL Stacktrain in 1999 and operated it as Pacer Stacktrain. In 2001, it consolidated transportation and logistics brokerage services in Pacer Global Logistics, renamed Pacer Transportation Solutions in 2008. Pacer became a public company in 2002. Its intermodal network doubled in size in 2008 with added BNSF service routes, alongside expansion of truck brokerage and highway services. XPO completed its acquisition of Pacer International on March 31, 2014; the deal made XPO the third-largest North American intermodal provider and the largest provider of cross-border Mexico intermodal. Former Pacer operations were later integrated into XPO's service offering. XPO sold the business to STG Logistics in 2022. STG filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January 2026.
