Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Give your everyday viewing a connection to Southern California’s railway past with this Pacific Electric Railway Company foldable mobile phone display stand. The Red Cars once linked Los Angeles with communities across four counties, carrying passengers toward places such as Santa Monica, Pasadena and Newport Beach. The network’s rise, consolidation and eventual passenger-service decline tell a vivid story of regional change. A useful desk accessory for transit enthusiasts, railway history fans and collectors of Pacific Electric memorabilia.
Organized in 1901 by Henry E. Huntington and banker Isaias W. Hellman, the Pacific Electric Railway Company grew from earlier Los Angeles electric railways into a Southern California network known as the Red Cars. Its first main project, the Los Angeles to Long Beach line, opened July 4, 1902. Lines connected Los Angeles with communities across Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside counties, serving destinations including Pasadena, Santa Monica, Redlands and Newport Beach. In the September 1, 1911 Great Merger, Southern Pacific brought several electric railway operations together under a new Pacific Electric Railway Company. At its height, the system operated more than 2,000 daily trains over 1,000 miles of track. Passenger service declined as routes were replaced by buses; remaining passenger operations were sold to Metropolitan Coach Lines in 1953. The Los Angeles to Long Beach line, the first and last interurban passenger route of the former system, ended service April 9, 1961. Southern Pacific absorbed Pacific Electric in 1965, while former right-of-way later supported the Metro Blue Line, which opened in 1990.
