GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Remember Participant Media's two-decade story with a ceramic ornament made for film and television collectors. Founded in 2004 as Participant Productions, the company grew into a broader media enterprise, pursuing projects that connected entertainment with social issues. Its history included digital and television ventures, international partnerships, and acclaimed films such as Spotlight and Green Book. After the 2024 announcement that operations would cease, its name became a marker of a distinct era in socially engaged independent entertainment.
Founded in January 2004 in the United States by Jeffrey Skoll as Participant Productions, the company set out to make commercially viable entertainment connected to social issues. Its early slate included American Gun, Syriana, North Country and An Inconvenient Truth. In March 2008, it changed its name to Participant Media to reflect expansion into television and other media. The company developed film, television and digital projects, and created the TakePart website and Participant Television division. In 2013, it launched the Pivot cable channel and Participant PanAmerica, a division for Spanish-language film production. In 2015, David Linde became CEO; that December, Participant joined Steven Spielberg, Reliance Entertainment and Entertainment One in creating Amblin Partners. Participant acquired digital brand SoulPancake in 2016, while Pivot and TakePart closed that year. In 2017, it earned B Corp certification and partnered with Lionsgate on international film distribution. Its films included Green Book and Spotlight, which won Best Picture Academy Awards. On April 16, 2024, Skoll announced that Participant would cease operations after two decades, ending development of new content and dismissing nearly all staff.
