GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Share a little regional history with this Penn Traffic Infant Bodysuit. Penn Traffic began in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, in 1854 and later became part of the Northeast's grocery story through supermarket names such as P&C, Quality, Riverside and Bi-Lo. From its return to food retail in 1962 to the sale of its remaining stores in 2010, the company connected generations of shoppers with local markets. A thoughtful keepsake for families who collect hometown and supermarket history.
Founded in 1854 as a trading post in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Penn Traffic grew into a department-store business and later a food retailer and wholesaler. The company returned to food retail in the early 1960s through its 1962 acquisition of Riverside, a 10-store supermarket chain. Quality Markets, founded in Jamestown, New York, in 1913, joined the company in 1979; Syracuse-based P&C Food Markets was acquired in 1988. After selling its department stores in 1982, Penn Traffic focused on supermarkets. Its 1989 acquisition of Ohio-based Big Bear expanded its reach, while P&C, Quality, Bi-Lo and Riverside were among its supermarket names. Financial difficulties led to Chapter 11 filings in 1999, 2003 and 2009. The company sold its wholesale business to C&S Wholesale Grocers in 2008. In January 2010, Tops Markets acquired all 79 remaining Penn Traffic supermarkets, with the sale closing on January 29. Penn Traffic was headquartered in Syracuse and its stores were concentrated in Central New York and the Northeast. The P&C name later returned under new owners in several communities.
