Keep a piece of early American automobile history close at hand with this foldable mobile phone display stand. Phianna Motors Company made luxury cars from 1916 to 1922, moving from its Newark beginnings to a Long Island City plant after a change in ownership. The company’s hand-built cars, custom coachwork, and evolving designs remain a compelling subject for collectors. This stand is a practical pick for a desk, reading space, or collector’s display, and a thoughtful choice for anyone interested in the story behind the Phianna name.
Phianna was an American luxury automobile manufactured from 1916 to 1922. R. J. Metzler created the Phianna Motors Company in 1916 after acquiring the equipment and production line of the debt-burdened SGV in May 1915. With industrialists John A. Bell and T. M. Pepperday, he moved production from Reading to Newark, New Jersey. The name joined Phyllis and Anna, the names of one of the company's twin daughters. Phianna first made a car based on the SGV, then developed its own models. In 1918, wartime use of the factory for tools and dies for the Wright-Martin Aircraft Company led to the sale of Phianna's assets. Miles Harold Carpenter and Texas rancher Carl M. Worsham acquired them and established a new plant at the end of 59th Street in Long Island City, New York. Carpenter, an automotive designer with experience at Pierce Arrow and Chalmers, oversaw hand-built cars, including updated models shown in 1919. The marque offered four- and six-cylinder engines and introduced safety glass, turn signals, and stop lights in 1919. Facing the depression of 1921, Carpenter decided to end production. The final car was completed in 1922 for John F. Norman.
