Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Start the day with a reminder of Piasecki Helicopter Corporation and its place in American aviation history. Founded in Philadelphia in 1940 as the P-V Engineering Forum, the company developed distinctive tandem-rotor aircraft, including the HRP-1 flying banana and H-21 Workhorse. Its story continued through Vertol and Boeing Vertol, connecting early helicopter innovation with postwar transport aviation. This coffee mug is a thoughtful choice for aviation enthusiasts, company-history collectors, and anyone who enjoys learning about the pioneers of flight.
Founded in 1940 in Philadelphia as the P-V Engineering Forum, the company was established by Frank Piasecki, Harold Venzie, and four other partners. Its early work included the PV-1 and PV-2; Piasecki designed and flew the PV-2 on April 11, 1943. After a Navy contract in 1944, the firm developed the PV-3, an influential tandem-rotor design. Reorganized as Piasecki Helicopter Corporation in 1946, it began production of the HRP-1 in 1947, known as the flying banana for its raised aft fuselage. Its helicopters included the HRP-2, H-21 Workhorse, and HUP-1. The company also developed the large H-16 transport prototype, which crashed fatally in January 1956. That year, the board renamed the company Vertol and forced Frank Piasecki out; he went on to establish Piasecki Aircraft Corporation. Vertol developed the Model 107, first flown in 1958, and the larger V-114. Boeing acquired Vertol on March 30, 1960, renaming it Boeing Vertol. In 1987, it became the Boeing Helicopter Division.
