It produced softwood lumber for retail home centers and distributors, alongside other natural-resource and property activities. In 2015, Seattle-based Weyerhaeuser announced an $8.4 billion acquisition of Plum Creek; the transaction closed on February 19, 2016, combining the companies as the largest private timberland owner in the United States.
